Games People Play ...

... was the title of a song by Joe South back in 1969.

Now we are as a matter of fact playing all sorts of games almost all of the time.
Nicolas Kristof suggested on Facebook that this amazing video 'The video game idea that caused a walkout at a gaming convention' should go viral.
Now I'm most certainly not a great fan of viral video's, as I feel they may be as hazardous for our mental hygiene as viral diseases are for our bodily welfare. Nor am I particularly amused by hypes.
Still, in this patricular case, I choose to second and honour Kristof's suggestion:



hoping it may stir up some public awareness and feeling with regard to the games we play.
And possibly the words of Joe South could still offer some direction there:

Wereldbeelden kom je uiteraard in allerlei smaken, kleuren en maten tegen.
En bepaalde soorten wereldbeelden kunnen naar mijn smaak ook aanzienlijk meer en gedetailleerder wetenschappelijk gefundeerd of ingekleurd worden dan andere.
Er zijn ook wetenschappers die zich vrij intensief in het fenomeen ‘wereldbeeld’ of ‘worldview’ verdiepen. Op een wat populairder en toegankelijker niveau worden er via de populaire en de, zeker ook door mij, zeer gewaardeerde TEDtalks ook nogal wat mens- en wereldbeelden of althans aspecten daarvan aan de man gebracht.
Benjamin Bratton achtte het juist in dat verband hoog tijd om het in zijn TEDtalk eens over die TEDtalks te hebben. En wel over hoe zij ons wereldbeeld dan weer kunnen beïnvloeden en mede (ver)vormen. Een, wat mij betreft, bijzonder doorwrocht betoog waar ik me met mijn wereldbeeld wel enigzins bij thuis kan voelen. Zijn kritiek richt zich met name op een verwrongen beeld van danwel een vervreemding van de werkelijk door bijvoorbeeld het feelgood-karakter en overgesimplificeerde spectaculaire persoonlijke inzichten die kort-door-de-bocht oplossingen voor complexe problemen uit de hoed zouden toveren.
